Why Are We Here?

Why Are We Here?

Avid readers, aspiring authors or independent publishers… My new friends, you’re all in the right place. I invite you to explore this site if you consider yourself any or all of these.

I stumbled into all three categories more than a few years ago and have been obsessed ever since. Allow me to share with you three blogs that zero in on your specific area of interest:

    1. A Reader’s Blog (currently also includes early writer’s and publisher’s articles)
    2. A Writer’s Page (new)
    3. A Publisher’s Page (new)

These are busy and exciting times!

My name is GK Jurrens. I am an author and publisher of mystery-thrillers, a sometime poet, always an avid reader and a starry-eyed dreamer of all things possible. I independently publish my own books, both fiction and non-fiction, and ardently believe “indie” publishing is the future of this industry.

I am an itinerant vagabond who lives and travels a technicolor North America most of the time in a bus with my lifelong partner and fellow wanderer, Miss Kay. Color us inspired.

But let’s get to the heat of the meat…

Avid readers, as you know, not every book is for every reader. I provide brief descriptions of each of my own books on the “Books by GK Jurrens” page elsewhere on this site, along with links to stores where you can further preview or purchase. From there, you decide. My books are fun to read, but may also contain a few pearls of wisdom, OR lumps of grit. You judge. When you read one of my books I wish you to consider a little different perspective when you set the book down than when you picked it up.

Aspiring authors, I’d love to coach you on the fundamentals of writing and sharing pointers to respected resources within the industry from whom I have learned a great deal. Others have found my experience has saved them frustration, time and money. I love sharing. Besides, I find coaching other writers fulfills me almost as much as watching my own words flow magically onto the page.

Publishers, I also love to share my thoughts on the fundamentals of independent publishing (authorpreneurship). While I am no expert, I’m a researcher by training, and I have learned from so many experts, distilled all of that down to what I need to efficiently publish (and market), and I love sharing that with you.

There are both advantages and pitfalls down the traditional and “indie” publishing roads. Whichever fork you choose, please avoid the mistakes I and others have made and leverage the opportunities I have found and use on my own literary journey. Study the map before starting your own trip. I can help accelerate your learning curve by avoiding countless potholes and detours.

Toward that end, the blog and two pages mentioned earlier are the heartbeats of this site. So please subscribe and watch my reader’s blog for newsletters featuring fascinating guests and other odd bits you may find interesting or amusing. These newsletters will also include articles about my new releases, some of which are give-aways.

The new writer’s page (new) should appeal to you aspiring, neophyte or seasoned authors as it points to resources I have found useful on my own literary journey or personal experience that might just help you avoid pitfalls I have encountered along the way.

And finally, the new publisher’s page (new)will illustrate how I’ve retained complete control of my works while still managing to offer them the visibility I feel they deserve. I’ll highlight the pros and cons of independent (self) publishing and marketing.

So check back regularly for fresh articles that might pique your interest, and even spare you unnecessary expense, lost time and needless frustration!

Dream big. Set goals. Take action. Reading and writing are like life… the journey is the destination.

Thanks for stopping by. See you soon, somewhere, my virtual friends.
