Writing Coach

Writing Coach

I am a researcher and a leader by training and through experience. I love to learn and share what I’ve learned and experienced. That includes having made mistakes, some costly. Helping others to avoid making those same mistakes is important to me.

What You Can Expect:

Growing in your career as a writer and independent publisher is important to you. I offer my services as a coach to motivate and facilitate that growth for a nominal fee. My joy comes from helping other writers serious about the profession.

You should expect help mitigating specific writing issues with which you are plagued.

To sample my own style, see my recently published book, “Why Write? Why Publish? Passion? Profit? Both?”

What I AM:

  • A retired executive and busy author with practical contemporary experience in writing, editing, formatting, publishing, marketing and selling. I also truly enjoy working with other serious writers who wish to learn and improve their craft.
  • Dead serious about both of us elevating our craft. Together. I share my experience and that keeps me fresh and growing. And as long as that’s also true for you, we’ll make a good team.
  • Offering a complimentary thirty-minute call to determine if we’re right for each other.
  • Then, for just $60 per hour, we’ll discuss and document a personalized action plan to elevate your writing or publishing career to the next level. Each hour invested is based on your desire to proceed. Or not.
  • A coach who offers a detailed assessment of your manuscript’s first five pages (fiction or non-fiction, any genre), ostensibly the most important pages of your entire book or story, for just $75. I evaluate your text within the context of best-seller wisdom and guidance from revered industry experts, including a detailed document containing that assessment. Its purpose is to assess not just your prose, but your thematic tendencies and to identify soft spots in your authorial style. From there, we can formulate an action-oriented improvement plan. This assessment will be most effective if paired with at least a one hour consultation. So I offer a package of your 30-minute complimentary introduction, one hour of consultation and the detailed assessment of your manuscript’s first five pages all for a total of just $120.

What I am NOT:

  • While I’ve published several novels worldwide, I am not yet an international best-selling author. If I were, my services would cost you a great deal more based on name recognition. I’d be selling you a coaching package for hundreds or thousands of dollars per month. If you prefer this, I can point you toward famous coaches who will gladly take your money, that is, if they can fit you in,
  • I am also not a professional editor. Unless you offer me a pile of money, I won’t be offering to developmentally edit or proofread your complete manuscript. I’d rather be writing or helping you improve your own editing skills,
  • I do not exploit your weaknesses as a writer or publisher. I point out those weaknesses to you and help you to eliminate or mitigate them as efficiently and as effectively as possible. If I can’t help you, I will say so,
  • I also am not a babysitter. If you are not a serious professional or aspiring professional who isn’t willing to put in the work, I’m not your guy. I don’t candy-coat my criticism or praise. If you get a compliment from me, it’s the real deal. Neither of us has the time for anything else. If we’re serious, that is. And I am. Are you?

Please email gjurrens@yahoo.com to explore these opportunities. We can do great things together. I look forward to hearing from you!

Yours,

Gene
